My Makeup Studio Tour

It has been a LONG while since I  wrote a blog post. I’m excited to show you all what I’ve been working on for quite some time now: I now have my very own space for my clients and future clients!  Welcome to my at-home makeup studio! A lot of time and thought, rearranging and arranging, cleaning, vacuuming, painting, measuring packed with a whole lotta love went into this little space. I love it and I hope you will too!

I should preface this post to address the lines in the photos you’ll see.  One of the sensors on my DSLR is out of whack, and until I get a new camera body, I will have to make do with what I have. I’m sorry if it annoys you! It annoys me too.

This has been a long time coming.  I’ve been wanting/planning to create a studio for a while, but I either a.) didn’t have time–I’m a baby-mama you know, b.) didn’t have room at the time, c.) didn’t know what I had in mind for what it would look like.  I finally had time to get crackin’ on this project and I couldn’t be more please with how it turned out.  There are still things I’d like to get organized and painted, but in the meantime, it serves its purpose.  I drew a lot of my inspiration from Pinterest, and watching other ladies set up their makeup studios on YouTube.  I wanted to keep it bright, welcoming, minimal, but still feminine and fun.

For those who don’t know me, my aesthetic in home decor is more of a minimalist approach. I absolutely love shapes, lines, and angles and I try to incorporate them into my decor. I think with this project I achieved this look for my studio.  I also loves plants. I think it gives your space a more comforting and homey feeling. 🙂  I did a ton of DIY things as well which I’ll point out along the way.  Home decor is always a never ending process, especially in your own space, so if I find something that can better my studio, I’ll add it.  (Like for example, I would have LOVED to order hairpin legs for my IKEA work table, but maybe for another day. Like when I have money.) 😛

ALRIGHT! Without further ado, welcome, WELCOME to my new makeup studio! Enjoy the tour!

Okay. First. Lets talk about this wall shall we? I found this triangle decal idea on my vast Pinterest searches. Needless to say, I immediately fell in love with it and wanted to incorporate it into my studio! I love triangles to say the least.  You’ll see them in my living room. You’ll see them on my website. I just LOVE triangles. I hand cut these suckers and measured them out and slapped them  on my wall. Yup. All by myself.  It was a bit of a pain, but the end result is a complete WOW factor for this room!

I also added a couch–off Craigslist for a cool $50! Love Craigslist.

Sometimes my clients like to bring a friend/sister/mother to their trial runs and what better sitting area for them to get comfy in! I added some decorative throw pillows to give this once blah sofa and chic and fun look. (Pillows are from Target as well as the oh-so soft, shag rug)

I tend to go spray-paint-crazy and that’s exactly what I did with this tray here.  As for the coffee table, I’m still debating on what to do with it….paint it black? Sand it down and re-stain it? I’m not sure. Still working on it. Let me know your thoughts!

I LOVE watercolor paintings! They seem so effortless and perfect but not perfect at the same time.  To keep with my minimalist aesthetic, I ordered digital prints of the makeup brushes and lips that have the gold framing around them off of Etsy and printed the images from UPrint.com. (SO CHEAP)

The watercolor painting of the woman is also from Etsy. It’s part of The Beauty Collection series from Tread Studios–which, by the way are an amazing husband and wife team.  They are awesome because 25% of their proceeds “benefit the Texas based ministry Jesus Said Love (www.jesussaidlove.com) which aims to bring the revolutionary love of Christ to women in the sex industry to awaken hope and empower change.” You should check them out!

The table above is my work station, so when clients come in for their trial run, this table will be filled with all my eyeshadow palettes, foundations, the WORKS. I got the desk from IKEA. And the storage unit on the left is also from IKEA. It’s literally what every makeup junkie and their mom have to store their makeup in–the ALEX 9-drawer unit. I love it!!!!!

These jars are actually empty Bath and Body work candles that I are now being used to hold cotton buds, cotton pads, disposable mascara wands and some disposable makeup sponges. How cute are they?!!

This is my own personal makeup vanity.  I painted the desk, which belonged to my grandmother, a mint green and repurposed the stool you see under the desk. I’m going to add a plant to that little side table you see under the pictures.

On the right is a small art gallery I put together. My grandmother’s photo is hanging on the wall from when she went to high school prom with my Grandpa. 🙂 I love adding sentimental pieces to your space.

That journal–where I keep notes for clients–I found at TJ Maxx. It was silly and awesome and well…I had to have it. Tres chic, non?

Please excuse the blurry picture. Now if you are a future client of mine, you will be sitting in that exact chair! One thing I love about this room is the natural light that comes in.  Perfect for doing makeup on clients!

The bookcase is still a work in progress but can we talk about the backing of the bookcase. To keep with the triangle theme, I had some leftover decal and made smaller triangles and willy nilly threw them on and VOILA! A fun bookcase.

The two canvases on the left are ones I made.  The top being a spin-off of the ever popular phrase: “but first, coffee” and then I painted a set of eyelashes on the other.  So simple! That’s my love language. 🙂
